The New Richmond Running Club started in 1987 when a few "guys" showed up on a Saturday morning to run a few miles and then eat pancakes at the Next Door Cafe. The actual name " New Richmond Running Club" was coined in 1992 when eight local runners formed a team to participate in the Edmund Fitzgerald 100K Relay. Since then the club has grown and found additional ways to involve all members.
-Started publication of a bi-monthly newsletter with current race results, upcoming events, and helpful running information.
- Initiated a 13-week beginner running program known as First Steps. Over the years, hundreds of people have been introduced to the sport of running.
- Started involvement in the Salvation Army with its Red Kettle Campaign. Each year the NRRC members volunteer as bell ringers.
- NRRC joined the Adopt-A-Highway clean-up program. Twice each year club members clean up a mile of Highway 64.
